Anyone who has been through a divorce knows that it is emotionally draining, but when children are involved it is important to put them first and attempt to maintain a civil relationship with the other parent. This sets a good example for your children and helps to establish a consistent and positive environment for them.

I was reminded of this when my niece, husband and 9 month old son came to visit us a couple of weeks ago. Don’t get me wrong, their child is one of the cutest babies I’ve ever seen. A great disposition, adorable laugh, playful and just plain sweet. I even ended the trip saying, “If this baby doesn’t make me want a second child, no baby will!” Anyone who went through this stage knows it’s a lot of work. Six years later, taking a plane ride isn’t nearly as dreadful as it was in the first year. I pack the night before, I make sure I have some snacks and a couple of toys and we are good. Flashback to 5 years ago, it went something like this.
