Why I don’t miss the baby stage

by Wired Mommy February 3, 2012
Why I don

I was reminded of this when my niece, husband and 9 month old son came to visit us a couple of weeks ago. Don’t get me wrong, their child is one of the cutest babies I’ve ever seen. A great disposition, adorable laugh, playful and just plain sweet. I even ended the trip saying, “If this baby doesn’t make me want a second child, no baby will!” Anyone who went through this stage knows it’s a lot of work. Six years later, taking a plane ride isn’t nearly as dreadful as it was in the first year. I pack the night before, I make sure I have some snacks and a couple of toys and we are good. Flashback to 5 years ago, it went something like this.

Choosing the Right Kindergarten

Choosing the right kindergarten

Last year at this time, I was in high stress mode along with many of our friends. It wasn’t post holiday blues or the fact I wanted to purge every toy in the New Year, it was because January in San Francisco = high stress for those with pre-school children heading off to kindergarten the following y ear. San Francisco, like other major cities, has a lottery system for public schools. I live in a nice neighborhood with great schools. I should be fine, right? Not the case in this wonderful city. Last year (school year 2011-2012) was the first year to even take your neighborhood into consideration. If a school has more applicants than openings, there is a list of tie breakers with neighborhood selection being fifth.

Do you bribe your kids?

Elf on the Shelf

He’s 6 years old and I have been bribing him for awhile now. In fact, I’m so elated every December when the holiday bribing season officially begins. I even catch myself using terms similar to homeland security when I tell him it’s red alert time. Sure, there are more PC ways of describing bribing and Elf on the Shelf is one of the more brilliant one’s. I’ve heard parents use ‘negotiate’ or ‘compromise’ but it really comes down to bribing.

Funny Baby T-shirts

I

While my son is no longer a baby, I’m happy to say I still get to buy baby presents this holiday. I just purchased a cute little t-shirt at my local gift store for my 7 month old nephew. At that age, you are really buying for the parents and couldn’t stop laughing at the green t-shirt, “I’m composting right now.” It got me to searching online for other funny baby and expectant parents t-shirts. I put together some of my favorites. Hopefully your local store carries them. If not, I’ve also found them online at Zazzle and CafePress.com and some other smaller sites. These make great holiday gifts.
