Meet Deborah Gilboa, MD

What inspired you to open your business?

As a mom of four and as a family doctor, I’ve learned that everyone struggles with parenting. Those struggles can impact the health of everyone in a family, and overcoming those same obstacles empowers parents to raise kids who can truly make the world a better place. As I gave public health talks about kids’ behavior, I was asked repeatedly if I had a website or book as an ongoing resource. These requests, and the encouragement parents get when they interact about common struggles, motivated me to create AskDoctorG.com, and offer seminars nationwide.

What has been your biggest unexpected challenge?

Having figured out that I need to delegate some of the tasks necessary to build my business, I’ve been really surprised at how hard it is to find a publicist who has experience in the areas I need. I’d love to hire a work-from-home parent, as the hours are very flexible, but finding that person has proven to be a real challenge!

How do you balance family/business?

A weekly schedule of hours that I will put into my business and what I want to accomplish is my best tool. Then, when something unexpected comes up with my boys I can figure out how many hours of work I missed and fit them in elsewhere that week or the next.
